Baker—Hall is pleased to present a focused group of three artists—Miguel Arzabe, Regina Durante Jestrow, and Jonathan Gonzalez—at the Dallas Art Fair. Working across painting, textile, and sculptural form, each artist engages abstraction through a shared sensibility rooted in tropical modernism: a language defined by vibrant palettes, geometric clarity, and a deep attention to material.
Miguel Arzabe’s paintings begin as distinct compositions that are physically cut and rewoven, collapsing the boundary between painting and object. His process introduces a structural rhythm that is both precise and improvisational, resulting in surfaces that feel at once constructed and fluid. Regina Durante Jestrow expands the legacy of quilt-making into a contemporary, painterly field, where hand-dyed and sourced textiles are layered and stitched into compositions that balance intuition with formal rigor. Jonathan Gonzalez approaches abstraction through dimensionality, creating sculptural wall works that translate architectural thinking into playful, tactile compositions.
Together, the presentation considers how structure and spontaneity can coexist—how systems, grids, and frameworks become sites for variation, disruption, and expression. Across each practice, material is not simply a vehicle, but an active participant, shaping the final form as much as the artist’s hand. The result is a dialogue between disciplines that feels both cohesive and dynamic, grounded in a shared visual language while remaining distinct in approach.
Miguel Arzabe
Miguel Arzabe is a Bolivian-American artist whose practice reimagines painting as a woven, dimensional surface. Working between abstraction and structure, he creates compositions that are cut, interlaced, and reassembled, resulting in works that oscillate between image and object. His process draws from both modernist abstraction and textile traditions, introducing a rhythmic interplay between precision and improvisation. Arzabe’s work has been widely exhibited and collected, and is noted for its distinctive synthesis of painting, pattern, and material construction.
Regina Durante Jestrow
Regina Durante Jestrow is an Italian-American textile artist based in Miami, Florida, whose work expands the language of contemporary abstraction through quilting. Using hand-dyed and sourced fabrics, she constructs layered compositions that balance intuitive mark-making with structured geometry. Rooted in the traditions of American quilt-making while pushing firmly into a contemporary context, her practice emphasizes materiality, color, and process. Her work has been exhibited in institutions and exhibitions dedicated to both contemporary art and textile innovation.
Jonathan Gonzalez
Jonathan Gonzalez is a Miami-based artist and designer whose practice bridges architecture, sculpture, and abstraction. Working primarily in dimensional wall works and sculptural forms, he explores the relationship between structure, surface, and space through a language informed by tropical modernism. His compositions often combine geometric clarity with a playful sensibility, translating architectural principles into tactile, material-driven works. Gonzalez has presented work in design and art contexts internationally and is known for his site-responsive commissions and large-scale installations.
