Lauren Shapiro is a Miami-based visual artist whose ceramics bridge art, science, and community engagement. Drawing from marine ecosystems and photogrammetric scans, Shapiro shapes vessel-like sculptures, wallworks, and immersive installations that reflect the fragility and resilience of natural environments. Her work often involves collaboration with scientists and the public, inviting participants to press clay into molds that contribute to the final form. With a commitment to hands-on learning, Shapiro positions her practice as both a reflection on environmental stewardship and a call to action, using art to preserve nature’s legacies and promote sustainability.
Shapiro’s work was the subject of a solo exhibition, Pastiche, at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Miami in 2024. Select recent commissions include Collected Forms, MSC Cruise Terminal, PortMiami in 2025; Garden Portals, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Miami in 2021; and Future Pacific, Bakehouse Art Complex, Miami in 2020.
The artist’s work is collected, among others, by Soho House and Jorge M. Pérez, Founder of the Pérez Art Museum Miami.
